On October 24th FCCLA took a trip to Northeast Community College for a once a year event known as District Leadership Conference or DLC.
Leaving the school early that morning they loaded up and were on their way to an event filled day, starting with registration and name tags. Offered at that time were tickets for a drawing that was to be later that day for a basket prize.
After a majority of the students spent twenty-five cents on each of the purchased tickets, an opening ceremony was held. Brianna Udell took part in this event and was installed as a 2007-2008 district officer.
After the key note speaker’s presentation on nutrition and weight management, the ceremony came to a conclusion and the option of a morning session was planned. Ranging from certain money management lectures to active exercise classes; the session were educational.
“I went to [a class called] Credit Card Blues and learned to always keep your pin number a secret,” said Skylar Gobel.
While the sessions were in process Hollie Nelson was representing Plainview in the Creed Speaking Competition. “I talked about what the FCCLA Creed meant to me, how FCCLA builds leadership skills, and how it builds courage for the future,” said Hollie.
When all was done, the students ate their lunch and went to another presentation together. Between the presentations, the ticket numbers were drawn.
Students from the Plainview chapter whose names were drawn for door prizes were: Ryan Christiansen, Camille Friedrich, Jill Christiansen, Cassie Smith, and Abby
“I won two baskets and only bought five tickets,” said Samantha Hart, one of the winning students. Other basket winners were Jacob Proskovec and Kayla Best. The closing session ended around 2:30 and the students were on their way home shortly after.
