As the warm weather continued, the Plainview golf team was able to makeup another of their postponed matches on Monday, May 5th. Playing at the Norfolk Country Club that is the site of district, Norfolk Catholic edged out the Pirates 167-172. Battle Creek was a distant third with 188. Josh Kounovsky was the medallist for the evening with 37 to lead the Pirates. Nate Wragge-44, Brett Korth-45, and Josh Scranton-46 were unable to figure out the putting but they played well from tee to green. Adam Krueger completed the team scoring with a 54. This was an entirely new course for Plainview as it had been 8 years since Plainview had been here for a dual.
Norfolk Catholic 177-207 beat the reserves. Again Battle Creek was a distant third with 224. Zac Masat led the team with 49 and was followed closely by Jacob Proskovec-50 and Nic Miller-52. Kenny Albin shot 56 to complete the team scoring while Britton Hamm’s 61 was not used.
Playing in the second postponed golf meet of the week, the Plainview golf team traveled to Stanton for the Stanton Invite on Tuesday, May 6th. Plainview received the runner-up trophy behind Norfolk Catholic. Norfolk Catholic bested the Pirates by four strokes 339-343. Plainview was one stroke ahead of the Norfolk Jayvee team.
Even though it was a nice day, the pin placements prevented low scoring as only two rounds of 39 were shot and five rounds of 40. Nate Wragge was able to shoot one of the rounds of 40 on the back after a front nine of 43 to finish in a tie for 5th with 83 total. Josh Scranton 41-44 and Brett Korth 42-43 turned in consistent rounds to finish at 85 and tie for 7th. Josh Kounovsky recovered from an opening round of 48 to shoot 42 on the back and finished one stroke out of a medal but helped the Pirates overtake Norfolk JV in the team race. Jared Forbes played in the fifth spot and opened with 52 on the front and came back with 47. Forbes improved his senior year to play in more varsity meets than he had anticipated.
