Pirates Take Down the Bulldogs

For the fourth consecutive week the Pirates took the field against a ranked opponent, and for the third time they came out victorious. This time the Pirates jumped to an early 13-0 halftime lead, and held on to beat the rival bulldogs form Creighton., 13-7.
We really had some guys step up their level of play this week. We had some key injuries, but the kids really hung together and played very well as a team. Tyler Wattier took over the QB duties and played very well. He was 9-14 for 135 yards. Caden Alexander had a big game as well, catching 5 balls for 79 yards. Alexander also threw a 28 yard touchdown pass to Derek White for the second score. On the ground Andrew Holton and Teran Boyer led the way rushing with 59 and 36 yards a piece.
However, the defense is what really stepped up big in this game. Creighton put together one scoring drive to start the second half, but the stingy Pirate defense gave up very little the rest of the game. Derek White had a critical interception deep in Pirate territory, and Adam Krueger and Ryan Miller both jumped on Bulldog fumbles. I thought our defensive line played very well and shut down their inside run game, and our young linebackers really stepped up this week and showed great improvement.
Next week the Pirates will travel to Neligh for a 7:00 game.
