The Plainview football team improved their record to 4-1 with a 45-22 win over the Neligh-Oakldale Warriors. The Pirates used a combination of a solid ground game and efficient passing attack to jump to a 39-0 lead after 3 quarters. The defense also played very solid, limiting Neligh to just 60 yards of offense in the first half. Derek White picked off a Neligh pass and returned it for a score, and Tyler Johnson's hard hit on a kickoff forced another Neligh turnover.
On offense Tyler Wattier was 11-17 through the air for 247 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nathan Wragge and Derek White were his favorite targets hauling in 77 and 74 yards worth of receptions. Teran Boyer added a 57 yard catch, and Lucas Sirek hauled in a 16 yard touchdown pass.
On the ground Teran Boyer led the Pirates with 79 yards, Andrew Holton added 45, and Cody Elwood had 47 yards.
Overall we showed some good improvement in some areas. I was pleased with our effort. We were able to establish a good lead , which allowed the younger players to gain some valuable playing experience.
Next week the #1 ranked Stanton Mustangs will travel to Plainview to take on the #2 Pirates. The kickoff is set for 7:00.
