Jacobsen Named Family Consumer Science Teacher of the Year

June 15, 2010

Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers of Nebraska (FCSTN) named Ronita Jacobsen as the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year in the 6-15 year of experience division at their annual Recognition Banquet and Dessert Reception held in Kearney, NE during the Nebraska Career Education (NCE) Conference. Jacobsen currently teaches Family and Consumer Sciences at Plainview High School. She has been a member of FCSTN and NCE since she began her teaching career in 1994.

While receiving her award, letters of support were read describing Jacobsen's activities in FCSTN, advising in FCCLA,  teaching roles/responsibilities at Plainview, and personal character traits. Letters of support expressed repeated themes of determination in keeping her program continually updated and current in terms of FCS and education as whole; boundless energy and a balance between work and family; embracing risk and challenge; striving to find new ways to teach and reach students; and a willingness to share her ideas and work with others.

Jacobsen graduated from Orchard High School in 1990 and attended Wayne State College where she received a bachelor's and master's degree in family and consumer sciences education.   She began her FCS teaching career at Ponca High School in 1994, then returned to the Plainview area where she taught at Pierce High School from 1997-1999. Jacbosen began teaching in Plainview in the fall of 1999 after the retirement of Mrs. Susan Huwaldt.

Attending the Recognition Banquet and Dessert Reception were Jacobsen's husband Shane of Plainview, Evie and Del Kroeger of Plainview; sister Trudy Bearinger of Creighton; sister Carrie Pitzer of Oakdale; sister-in-law Tracy Carlson of Pierce; and parents Ron and Earla Carlson of Norfolk.
