PLAINVIEW/NORFOLK CATHOLIC DUAL
The Plainview boys golf team held an 18-hole dual with Norfolk on April 17, at the Plainview Country Club. Norfolk Catholic easily outdistanced the Pirates 348 to 434. Plainview was again short-handed due to a misunderstanding.
Jake Lingenfelter led the Pirates with a 41-45 and also had the second low score of the day behind Jarret Cerny of Norfolk Catholic who carded a 79. Lingenfelter had three pars in the front nine before birdie #9. Lingenfelter two pars to off-set his two double-bogies on this back nine. Tyler Masat, having missed both practice time and a meet, because of other functions started out very poorly before an adjustment was made after the third hole. Masat shot a 58 on the front. Masat started the back nine very well and was able to continue to play well until late in the round to finish at 48.
Colin Springer started off poorly also before he played the last four holes at bogie. Springer, fighting a cold, tired on the back and shot 59. Both Norfolk Catholic coaches commented on the fact that Springer had some very good shots in both of his rounds and were surprised that he did not finish better. Jordan Booth ended the team scoring as he shot 65-64 for 129. Booth continues to improve and learn more each time he plays. Jacob Ziegenbein played from the blue tees for the first time and had several pick-up-10s in his first try. Both Booth and Ziegenbein are beginners that are pressed into action due to the small squad.
Next Action for the Pirates is next Monday, April 25 at Hartington for a triangular.
