GIRLS GOLF AT BATTLE CREEK
The Plainview girls golf team finished a busy few days with the Battle Creek Invite on September 11 at the Evergreen Hill golf course. The team placed eighth of the 10 team participating with a score of 548. West Holt won the meet with 394 while Norfolk Catholic was second with 409. Evergreen Hill is a links style course with tall native grass lining both sides of the fairways. Once a ball was hit into the native grass, the ball was very seldom found. This produced some scores higher than normal scores.
Elle Kment continued to lead the Pirates as she placed 19th with 112. Kment opened with 59 and then recorded a career 9-hole total of 53 on the back. Kment is getting closer all of the time to obtaining a medal. Hopefully this will occur at the Plainview Invite on September 16.
With Tabby Johnston home with the flu, the Pirates had only a team of 4 instead of a team of 5. Aaliyah Brown had scores of 78-65. The 65 was a career low for Brown in her first year of golfing. Brown had only one double-digit hole on the back nine. Jessica Stark was right behind Brown as she recorded 73-71. The 73 was a career low for Stark and then she lowered the career low to 71. Kayla Johnston playing in place of her sick sister ended the team scoring with79-70. Johnston had several good holes but let a high double-digit score on the front nine ruin her front nine. A rare event then took place as two of the team wanted to practice some more after the meet so they played six more holes at the home course. It has been a long time since this has ever occured.
The Pirates host their own Invite on September 16 and they would welcome some spectators coming out to watch them. All seven of the girls will be participating either as a varsity or reserve member.
