GIRLS GOLF AT LAUREL
The girls golf team journeyed to Laurel to participate in the former NENAC Invite. These are the 5 schools that still field a girls team and were members of NENAC. Wayne and Battle Creek were added to the teams playing this year. Battle Creek won the meet with a score of 408 and West Holt was second with 411. Plainview was fourth with their lowest team score of the year at 485.
Tabby Johnston had her best score of the year at 108 that placed her 11th in the medal standings. Johnston shot 58 on the front nine as she started on the three hardest holes of the course at 9 over for them. Settling down, Johnston then proceeded to play the back nine at 50 that is a personal best for the season. Elle Kment was right behind Johnston in 12th place but neither of the girls received a medal. Kment started out poorly on each nine but she was able to finish strong to shoot 55-55. Both of the girls are getting closer to being able to qualify for state.
Becca Kment did not have one of her better days as she shot 64 for each round. Kment let some of the easier holes prevent her from scoring lower. Kayla Johnston ended the team scoring with 139. Johnston struggled around the green that prevented her from scoring better. Johnston again uses more strokes around the green that she does getting to the green.
Playing in a reserve role were Jessica Stark and Alexa Meyer. Each girl finished with 118 as they played from shortened tees. Both girls avoided any double-digit holes that is always a big goal for the reserves.
The team was scheduled to have a dual with O'Neill on Tuesday, September 26th that has been moved to Plainview due to men's league at O'Neill. There will be a JV tournament associated with this meet that will end the action of the reserves for the season.
