DISTRICT GIRLS GOLF
The season ended for the Plainview girls golf team as neither the team nor any of the girls qualified for state competition on the Hartington golf course where C-3 district was held. Cedar Catholic won the meet on their home course with a score of 405. Cedar Catholic also had both the medalist in Cassidy Ulrich who shot 79 and the runner-up in Ireland Biltoft who shot 85. Each of the teams in contention for qualifying for the team race had two girls who could score low and carry the rest of their team. There was a steady mist of rain during the entire meet that hampered play.
Elle Kment was low for the Pirates with a 67 on the front nine and 60 on the back nine. Kment had 5 holes in the middle of her 18 holes of play that ended her chances of qualifying. The rest of the holes were respective for Kment. Tabby Johnston was not far behind Kment as she shot 65-65. Johnston also played well but 4 double-digit holes ended her chances. Johnston did record the only par of the day for the team. Both of these girls have learned a good swing but they are unable to sustain it for long periods. Their best golf is yet to come.
Becca Kment shot 70-67 as she was hampered by three double-digit scores. Kment had several good holes as she ended her first year of competition of play. Kayla Johnston ended the team scoring with 84-74. Johnston had four double-digit holes on her front nine but she continued to fight. This ended her worst score of the year. Alexa Meyer, also in her first year of play, had her scores of 87-99 not used. This was really the first time that Meyer had played on the varsity as most of her action was in a reserve role. All three of these girls are sophomores who can get much better. All three will have good shots but there are unable to maintain them during an entire round. These three girls, along with Jessica Stark and Aaliyah Brown, will form the nucleus for the 2018 team.
