Pirate Rumor Watch

We, at Plainview Schools, want to make sure the public has access to reliable information. Wrong information can cause unneeded tensions or animosity within our Pirate family.  This site located on our webpage was created to give you the ability to ask any question and get the facts about a 'rumor' you may have heard. The administration will send a response by e-mail to all questions. This site is NOT meant to be a complaint center or to address issues with specific personnel or students. Those issues require a conference with an administrator.

Q) Is Plainview going to 8man football next year?

A) 9/27/11 At this time Plainview will remain playing 11man football.  Plainview's NSAA classification (based on our 9 through 11 class enrollment) is 91.  Schools who are eligible for 8man football must have a classification enrollment of 83 or lower.  Our projected numbers do not have us falling below the 83 classification enrollment number until the 2017-2018 school year.

UPDATE!!!

10/26/11 The numbers at Plainview Public Schools does not allow the school to be eligible for football playoffs in 8man football.  Our NSAA number was recorded at 91, the cut off is 83 for 8man football.  The NSAA does allow teams to compete in the regular season 8man football.  The reason we will be discussing this is the not the number of students in school but the number of students choosing to participate.  Initially we project 26-27 students participating.  After asking students if they will be participating it looks as if the number will be 22-23.  This number also represents the 7th & 8th grade students who will be freshman.  The scenario that faces the school is do we knowingly with low numbers and possibility of injury elect to play 11man or 8man football for the next two year cycle. If we play 11man the chance of schools in the area we would be playing are: Lutheran High, Crofton, Laurel-Concord, West Holt, Hartington CC, Ponca, Homer, Wisner/Pilger, Stanton … Other games are unlikely because they would be C1 but location might be a factor: Pierce, Norfolk Catholic, O’Neil, Battle Creek…

UPDATE!!!

11/15/11 The school board voted to allow Plainview football team to opt out of 11-man football for the next two years (2012-1-13 & 2013-2014).  If you have any questions please contact Mr. Kort (Activities Director) at 402.582.3808.
