FCCLA Member Shayla Jacobsen received National Runner-Up for her FCCLA STAR Repurpose Redesign project “Shutter Nightstand” at the FCCLA Hybrid National Conference in Nashville, TN. The announcement of her second-place status with a gold medal was given July 1st during the Virtual Awards Ceremony, with awards mailed out to recipients. Jacobsen had submitted her project and presentation online in April. Online judging of all STAR events occurred in May with awards and announcements of placings given during the Virtual Competitive Events Recognition Session in July.
Jacobsen joined more than 4,500 members, advisers, and supporters from across the country with participating in FCCLA’s first-ever Hybrid National Leadership Conference. Whether attending virtually or in-person, FCCLA challenged all conference attendees to grow “Beyond Measure” through career exploration, virtual networking, Competitive Event recognition, professional development opportunities, student-led leadership sessions, and more! Jacobsen and her adviser were able to attend live sessions, recorded students and adviser sessions, a career expo, and other events through the virtual platform.
“I am proud of Shayla’s accomplishments. She worked hard to improve her project for nationals by reading and re-reading district and state evaluator comments. She took time making changes to her project display board, editing her speech, and working on her presentation skills. It’s exciting to see a student’s efforts rewarded. I hope this accomplishment encourages other members to participate in FCCLA Competitive Events.” stated adviser Ronita Jacobsen.
