FCCLA Blood Drive March 12
Spring is a time for new beginnings. Your blood, platelet, or AB Elite plasma donation can help give a patient a new lease on life!
The Plainview FCCLA is hosting a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, March 12th, from 9 am–3 pm at Plainview High School Tartan Gym.
American Red Cross donors care about helping patients. “We want our donors to know how much we care about them by expanding our health offerings to include free A1C testing (commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes) for all who successfully give blood, platelets or plasma. You can help save lives and empower your health!” As a thanks for your generous gift, when you come and donate on March 12th, all donors who complete a donation will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card via email.
For more information or to make an appointment to donate, call 402-582-4991 or sign up online at redcrossblood.org or through the Red Cross App. 40 donations is the goal for the drive set by the Red Cross, which is a huge but achievable goal for the community.
“FCCLA is committed to strengthening our community by helping hospital and patient needs through blood donations,” said Shayla Jacobsen, FCCLA President. “This blood drive is our way of giving staff, colleagues and neighbors an opportunity to help save lives.”
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. Someone every day in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products are needing to be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
“We ask community members to donate blood and help to ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs. There’s no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life.”
“Hosting a blood drive coincides with FCCLA’s core values of giving back to the community,” said Kaydance Maertins, FCCLA Vice President. “With a blood donation, we have the ability save a life. From a coworker to a loved one or neighbor.”
Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross.
“The 15 minutes it takes to donate can mean a lifetime to a patient with a serious medical condition. We urge eligible donors to join us in the selfless act of giving blood.”
According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative. Donors are encouraged to complete Rapid Pass online the day of the drive to help save time during the drive and allow for a smooth donation process.
