Sidewalk Grant: "Safe Routes to School"

by Corey Dahl

December 10, 2007

The City of Plainview & Plainview Public Schools have submitted a grant for new sidewalks in Plainview.  If Plainview is approved, new sidewalks would be installed in designated areas leading to the school.  These "designated" areas would be on a "Safe Route" to Plainview Public and would include Zion Lutheran, new crosswalk beacons on Highway 20 and bicycle parking at both schools.  The "Safe Routes to School" grant is through the Nebraska Department of Roads.  Check out the link to the "Safe Routes Nebraska" website.  We will know whether or not the grant was received in February 2008.  Click on the map to enlarge it.  On the map you will be able to see the proposed "Safe Route" and where the crosswalk beacons would be installed, as well as where new sidewalks would be installed.
