Pirates Lose a Close One

by Joe Anderson

September 21, 2008

The Pirate football team tasted defeat for the first time this year on Friday night. Hartington CC came away with a 12-6 win, in a hard fought game that came down to the last seconds.

Plainview scored first on a two yard run by Tyler Holton. Cedar Catholic answered back with 2 touchdowns by Chad Koch. The game saw two defenses play well. The Pirate Defense stepped up big and stopped a couple of Cedar's scoring opportunities in the second half.

The Pirates hung in to the end and had a chance to win the game after Lucas Sirek returned a punt back inside the 10 yard line with 2 minutes left, but we were unable to punch it in.

I was really pleased with our kids' effort. We had some big injuries this week, but we had some young kids really step up and play well. If we can keep people healthy, this should really help us develop some quality depth for the late season.

IT is a short week for the Pirates this week, as they entertain Creighton on Thursday night at 7:30.
