Housing Design Creates Murals
May 13, 2010
Housing Design class put to use their newly found skills of the elements and principles of design by creating and painting murals in the hallway that leads to the Family and Consumer Sciences classroom. The purpose of the project was to give students hands-on experience in applying skills learned in the classroom and at the same time brighten the hallway and school. What to place on the walls was a semester long discussion and included the help of Anthony Thompson of Thompson Design Studio of Plainview.
Once the designs were selected students worked on calculating an estimated cost and determining how to transfer the designs to the walls due to the differing wall textures. Students found the experience to be educational, frustrating, and yet fun. "It was very hard to get the key mural painted above the door to match the computer graphic design," stated Kayla Thompson. "I knew what I wanted it to look like, but mixing the right colors and getting the shading correct is very difficult. But, it was exciting to see the changes and progress made each day." Housing Design students working on the projects were Lisa Lenox, Amanda Pittet, Lindsay Loyd, Mina, Bianca, Jacey VanEvery, and Kayla Thompson. Independent Art students also working on the project were Sara Robinson and Skylar Gobel.
