Pirates Get Homecoming Victory
The Plainview football team improved its record to 2-0 with a 21-7 victory over the 8th ranked Bears of Laurel-Concord. The Pirates won this game in very similar fashion as last week. They were able to force 4 Laurel turnovers, while not committing any turnovers of their own. The defense played very solid for most of the game. Derek White, Caden Alexander, and Teran Boyer all picked off passes, and Derek White also jumped on a Bear fumble to set up a Pirate touchdown.
I have been very pleased the way our defense has played this year. To hold two very good offenses to one score says a lot about the effort the kids are putting forth on defense.
On offense we were a little sluggish. We moved the ball well at times, but we need to be more consistent. Darren Forbes lead the ground game with 125 yards, and Trey Boyer was 5-10 for 30 yards. Caden Alexander caught 4 of the ball for 27 yards. Lucas Sirek finished off the scoring by catching a 2 point conversion.
We are happy to be 2-0 right now, but we have another big test this week against Hartington CC. We have to continue to get better each week.
