FCCLA Hold Membership Kickoff Picnic

August 25, 2010

Over 30 students attended the annual FCCLA Membership Kickoff Picnic August 24 which was held in the FCS classroom.  The kickoff began with a slide show of last year’s events followed by a taco bar and salads. Adviser Ronita Jacobsen presented information on FCCLA including the purposes of FCCLA, fundraising activities, and this year’s calendar of events.  Following a question/answer session students moved to the elementary school playground for their “Basic Training Event”.

With “FCCLA STRONG” being the theme for the 2010-2011 school year, attendees found themselves facing team challenges during the activity portion of the evening.   Students were divided into four teams which then rotated through different stations: Tire Run, Wall Climb with Ramp/Slide, Creeper Roll with Pirate Dummy, and Chain Swing with Bridge and Tunnel Run.

Students were instructed to use their teamwork, communication, and encouragement skills throughout the challenges and to remember that “no man is left behind” in FCCLA.  The event concluded with a tug of competition between the four teams.  Since everyone is a winner, attendees received special army dog tags and returned to the FCCLA room for ice cream and bars.

Students also received their fundraising packets and will continue to fund raise throughout Labor Day Weekend.  Money earned during the fundraising will be placed into individual student accounts which will assist students in paying for their dues, t-shirts, and conference registrations throughout the year.  The next FCCLA meeting will be Sept. 13 in the FCS Room at 6:30 p.m.
