Girls Golf Win NENAC
The Plainview girls golf team ventured to Wayne on September 22 for the Wayne Invite. When all of the girls but Rachel Sorensen started off poorly, the result was a 10th place finish among the 16 schools. However note should be taken that a lot of the schools present were class B schools. A little bit of homecoming fever may have also played a part in their scores.
With the slow starts none of the girls received a medal. Briana Hamm came the closest to a medal with her two rounds of 54. Hamm was playing good golf on the front when for some reason the last three holes caused her problems. Rachel Sorensen also played good golf on the front but went 12 over on the last three holes for a 61. Sorensen redeemed herself by playing the back nine at 50. Stephanie Sorensen lost her confidence as she started on the back with the toughest hole. Sorensen was never able to get into a rhythm and came in with 56-60. Brittany White finished the team scoring with 61-59. White would have some good scores and then an errant shot would lead to trouble. Kaytlyn Johnston continues to play good golf until she nears the green. With half of her strokes coming around the green, Johnston had a 74 on the back where she started. With the promise to do better, Johnston came back with 64.
Since this is the site of district, the girls will need to improve greatly in order to be one of the top three teams to qualify for state.
