Golfers Compete At O'Neill
On September 26 the girls golf team traveled to OâNeill. While the varsity was having a triangular with OâNeill and Elkhorn Valley, the reserves were participating in a reserve tournament. The girls played from advanced tees that would be called the back youth tees. Since the reserves are used to playing the red tees, this made them think about their club selection. Plainview fared very well in the tournament as all five girls medalled with Morgan Johnston receiving the golf medal with her very fine score of 42. Of the years that Plainview has participated in this tournament, it is the lowest score that Coach Knaak can recall posted at this tournament. Erika Neumann was presented the silver medal as she shot 52. Darian Bowers-61 and Kristen Cattell-62 received the 8th and 9th place medal respectively as they stayed away from double-digit scores on any hole. Michaela Sirek had one double-digit score that kept her from scoring in the 50s. Sirek still received the 10th place medal with her 63.
This is the last action for the reserves as they have finished their season. With the exception of Erika Neumann, all of these reserves are first year golfers. Michaela Sirek will graduate but the rest of the girls will be back and should be able to fill in admirably for the graduating seniors from the varsity squad.
The varsity was second in the triangular with OâNeill winning with 221. Plainview shot 234 while Elkhorn Valley had 236. Stephanie Sorensen played steady golf except for one hole and recorded 52. Rachel Sorensen recorded 56 after a poor start. Rachel Sorensen thinks that she has figured out some putting problems to help lower her scores. Brittany White, unable to get off the tee, except for one hole, would recover and finished with 60. White will score lower when she doesnât lose this stroke a hole. Kaytlyn Johnston completed the team scoring with a 66. Johnston continues to have about half of her strokes on the green. This is normal but the strokes on the green are supposed to be two and not three or four.
The varsity has moved their dual with West Holt to Wayne on Thursday, September 29. This will allow both teams to prepare for districts. It also prevents West Holt from traveling to Plainview three times in less than two weeks.
