FCCLA Sets Feb. 12 Blood Drive Date
FCCLA has set Wednesday, February 12 as their newest blood drive donation date. Every day, patients across the nation rely on blood donated through the American Red Cross. Nearly 5 million need blood transfusions every year. Generous donors from this area can help the Red Cross meet patient needs by giving blood on February 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Pirate Auditorium at Plainview High School.
“The Red Cross has set a high goal for us of 72 donations. The number of scholarships provided to students who assist with the blood drive is based on the donation totals; therefore a donation helps in several ways. This fall, donations have been low with goals not being met at the drives. I’m hoping we will able to report that we surpassed our goal, “ stated drive coordinator Ronita Jacobsen.
To make an appointment to donate blood, simply call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767), visit redcrossblood.org, or contact Ronita Jacobsen at Plainview High School (402-582-4991). All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donates 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Parental permission is REQUIRED for any high school student to donate this year, regardless of age. A parental permission form may be picked up from Ronita Jacobsen or by stopping in the FCS room.
The American Red Cross provides shelter, food and clothing to victims of disasters; supplies more than 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches lifesaving skills; ministers international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
