FOUR WRESTLERS GOING TO STATE
After the dust settled in the toughest Class C District in the state, Plainview had four state qualifiers. The pirates wrestled well enough to have all 4 wrestlers in the finals. That will help the kids have better draws the first round at state.
Several young kids wrestle for us this year, because of some unfortunate injuries. Seven out of 11 wrestlers that were entered in the district tournament were freshmen and sophomores. They gave great effort, but it is difficult for young kids to take on mature kids in a district like that.
Dominique Rickard and Christian Miller each won their weight classes. Cole Aschoff and Josh Zern finished runner-ups. Josh probably put together the best tournament of the 4. He was seated 5th, beat the 4th ranked kid in the quarters and pinned the top seated(37-1) wrestler in the semi-finals. The entire gym erupted when he pinned his opponent. We had a good plan and Josh executed it like he was supposed to.
