GIRLS GOLF AT WEST HOLT
The Plainview girls golf team traveled to Atkinson for the West Holt Invite on Thursday, August 31. Again, this is a hard course for girls, especially beginners, as 5 of the holes require the golfer to cross a water canal that extends across the course. The team placed 8th out of the 11 schools that participated with a score of 619. West Holt won the tournament with a score of 414.
Elle Kment, again led the team, with a scores of 64-60 that was 10 strokes from medaling. Kment played well except for the final three holes of each round. Tabby Johnston shot 75-78. Johnston did not play as well as last week as she let crossing the water stop her from scoring.
Jessica Stark had scores of 89-81. Stark got off to a rocky start but she continued to improve on those holes the second round. Becca Kment ended the team scoring with 84-87 . This was an 13 stroke improvement from the previous meet. Kment also recorded her first par of her career. Alexa Meyer had her scores of 105-96 not used in the team scoring. While these scores are not as low as they should be, the girls are learning every meet. They are also not discouraged in their endeavor to learn the game.
Kayla Johnston, who struggled last week, played as a reserve this week but improved 42 strokes. Her scores of will put her back on the varsity. Aaliyah Brown, also playing as a reserve, ended the scoring. The primary difference for the reserves was that the did not play under a modified scoring. With this in mind, the two girls showed great progress.
