Red Cross Scholarships and Honor Cords Presented
The Red Cross Blood Drive High School Scholarship Program rewards schools and students for the outstanding contributions they make to the local blood supply. This year 4 students will each receive a “Hope Begins with You” Scholarship for their work in organizing the drive and calling potential donors throughout their high school years. Receiving the scholarship to the school of their choice were Marque Albin, Roni Prewitt, Reagan Choat, and Abigail Kromarek.
The amount of scholarship money received is based upon the number of units collected at the blood drives which students help run and work at through the school year. This year, Plainview High School held one drive during the summer and 4 drives during the school year. The amount of each scholarship will be determined after the May 15th drive is completed and the total number of donations collected has been calculated.
The Red Cross also honors students by presenting Honor Cords to seniors who have volunteered hours and worked at least 3 blood drives their senior year in addition to assisting at drives previous years. By giving so much of themselves to serve others, these students prove that they are focused on improving the world around them. With the red graduation cords, they are recognized for their willingness to help the community and are encouraged to continue in the path of service and helpfulness for the rest of their lives. The Red Cord Honors Program represents more than just a student’s donation to give life; it also symbolizes their giving nature, and the potential they have to change the world for the better. Those earning honor cords this year are: Marque Albin, Roni Prewitt, Reagan Choat, and Abigail Kromarek.
