Early Childhood Education Earns Active Supervision of Children Certification

Plainview Early Childhood Education students recently completed an important milestone in their professional development. Nine students finished the Active Supervision of Children training under the instruction of Mrs. Jacobsen, a certified trainer. The students who completed the training are Kaydance Maertins, Peighton Arlt, Kara Lingenfelter, Avery Hardisty, Ilyana Barron, Katherine Enriquez, Meleah Buck, Alyssa Abram, and Nyome Harding.

The Active Supervision of Children training is designed for child care providers who want to advance their careers through professional development or may have been mandated by the state.  Participants earn 2 hours of in-service credit upon completion (unless state mandated). During the training, participants learn the proper ways to interact with and supervise children in educational settings.

The course covers several important topics. Students define what active supervision means, learn the specific supervision requirements set by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, explore best practices used by professionals in the field, and develop their own active supervision plan.

These students are working toward earning their certification, which will allow them to begin their practicum experiences next semester. A practicum is hands-on training where students work directly with children in real childcare and classroom settings.

"Students have been working to meet the certification requirements which will allow them to participate in their practicum experiences next semester. With the high demand for quality childcare providers and educators, the goal is to provide students with the education, skills, and experience to assist them in their future career choice," said Mrs. Jacobsen.

The completion of this training shows that the program is preparing students well for careers in early childhood education during a time when quality childcare providers are greatly needed in communities.
