Give the Gift of Life: CTSO's to Host Community Blood Drive Sept. 16

August 27, 2026

Mark your calendar and make a direct impact in our community! Plainview’s Career and Technical Student Organizations—FCCLA, FFA, and Educators Rising—are partnering with the American Red Cross to host a vital community blood drive on Wednesday, September 16, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Plainview High School Tartan Gym.

The American Red Cross is currently experiencing a severe national blood shortage following a 35% decline in donations over the past month. High flu activity nationwide has sidelined many regular donors, making it critical to rebuild inventories to ensure hospitals can continue providing lifesaving care.

The need is especially urgent for types O, A negative, and B negative blood. Without immediate community support, vulnerable patients—including trauma victims, surgical patients, new mothers, and those undergoing treatments for cancer or sickle cell disease—face serious medical risks.

Our goal for this drive is to collect 35 donations and fill 3 Power Red appointments. To meet this critical target, 62 individual donation slots are available.

Beyond saving lives, your participation directly supports local youth. The Red Cross awards scholarship funds to senior members based on the total units collected throughout the year.

"Currently, Plainview holds one of the largest high school blood drives in terms of unit collection, and we want to keep that momentum going," said Ronita Jacobsen, FCCLA Adviser and Educators Rising Teacher Leader. "Hosting these drives provides our senior students with essential scholarship money for their futures."

Joining us in making a difference is quick and easy:

  • Call: Contact Plainview High School at 402-582-4991.

  • Online/App: Visit redcrossblood.org or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App to choose your time slot.

  • Save Time: Use RapidPass on the day of the drive to complete your pre-donation reading and health history online before your appointment.

Step up for your community, support our students, and help save lives on September 16!
