Randolph-HCC Golf Triangular
After almost a two-week interval, the Plainview boy's golf team was able to play a match on April 23 at the Randolph golf course. The triangular also included Hartington CC. HCC won the match with a score of 150 while Randolph had 185 and Plainview finished third with 193. This is the lowest team score of the season. A team score below 170 should be attainable if the players continue to improve.
Matt Schaefer of HCC was the medalist with 34 and team-mate Quinn Paulsen had 35. Jake Lingenfelter led the Pirates with a 42. Lingenfelter putted very poorly as the greens were much slower than Plainview's and much larger. It is hard to go from fast greens to slow greens. Jordan Booth with a career low of 47 helped the team tremendously. Booth has been steadily improving this season.
Colin Springer shot 50 that is not a good round for him. Springer struggled off the tee so he had to scramble too much. Riley Kaup with 55 ended the team scoring. Kaup had 3 poor holes that kept his score down. Kaup needs to learn how to minimize his poor shots to avoid a high score on a hole. Matt Hoffmann had a career score of 58. This is his first time below 60 as he continues to learn the game.
Playing in reserve action was Jacob Ziegenbein with 80 and Colton Choat with 82. Both of these boys need plenty of practice time but this season has not allowed this to happen.
Next action is Tuesday, April 23 when three varsity members will travel to Hartington for the HCC Invite. Two members of the varsity will travel to Osmond on April 25 to play in the postponed Osmond Invite. On Saturday, April 27 the entire squad will travel to Atkinson for the West Holt Invite
