The State FCCLA STAR Competition will be held virtually this year. Submissions to the online portal will be due March 12. The State FCCLA Conference will be held virtually April 12-13, instead of in Lincoln. Results of the State STAR competition will be announced during the state conference.
Jacobsen competed in the Repurpose and Redesign event. She had taken shutters from her grandparents’ house and used them to make a nightstand. For competition, she created a display board of her work progress, showed her project, and gave a 5-minute presentation explaining the process of how she made the nightstand.
“It was exciting to see Shayla return as a state qualifier,” stated Jacobsen. “She worked hard on her project and learned new skills to complete it. Although competition was virtual, the judges gave her excellent suggestions for improvements. Her plans to improve her presentation and display work are underway.”
