Educators Rising Collects School Supplies for Elementary Students

December 20, 2024

Educators Rising Members (students in Introduction to Professional Development) collected and donated close to 80 school supply items to the Plainview Elementary School students.  To gather donations, they first created a contest among students 7-12.  The first period class that brought in the most donation would earn a food treat from them.  The class winning was Mrs. Mosel’s class with 27 donations. Mrs. Kush’s class brought in 19 and Mrs. Miller’s coming in third with 11.

The winning class was treated with Sunny D, monster cookies, and muffins. To encourage the community to donate, they had placed a tree up in the back room at Mary’s with a donation box underneath of it and left it there for a few weeks. This past week, the donations were all gathered and counted and delivered to Mrs. Hodson, elementary principal, for her to disperse to students as needed.

The project began at the end of November when Shayla Jacobsen and Trindan Ziems decided to spearhead this their Project Visualize assignment in the Intro to Professional Development class. Mallory Maurer and Emma Sauser had previously decided  to do Christmas for the Elder for their Project Visualize Assignment.  Their plan was to assist elderly people that they knew in decorating their homes for Christmas and then after Christmas put their homes back to the normal arrangement. Once the projects were complete, each group designed a display board representing their project and presented a 4–5-minute speech explaining their project and its impact. Students have the option of taking the project to the state competition Feb.26-27 if they desire.

Students also created resume and cover letter during the final weeks in class applying for a paraprofessional job.  They then interviewed for this position with Mr. Schmidt who gave them constructive feedback for future interviews.  This project may also be taken to the Ed. Rising State Conference for the Job Interview Conference.
