FCCLA Attends Peer Education Conference

The Plainview FCCLA Chapter joined 330 students and advisers from 42 chapters who attended the State Peer Education Conference held in Kearney, NE on February 24, 2025. Attending from Plainview were Shayla Jacobsen, Brooke Forbes, Kaydance Maertins, Ashlyn Forbes, Dakotah Albin, Ilyana Barron, Nyomi Barron, Scarlet Torrey, Maleah Buck and Adviser Ronita Jacobsen.  The theme of the conference was “Find Your Spot in the World--Lead with Purpose”. The day provided students and advisers from chapters across Nebraska an opportunity of leadership development, peer education, and community engagement.

The conference featured an exciting lineup of activities, including keynote addresses, breakout sessions, and recognition ceremonies. The keynote speaker, Tyler Cronin from Lincoln, captivated attendees with his motivational talk on "Marking Your Mark on the World," inspiring students to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. The National Program focuses for the State Peer Officer Teams this year are Stand Up, Career Connects, and FACTS.

 

During opening session, the Plainview Chapter was recognized for their outstanding working work by the Community Leader Team for their work in the National Program FACTS (Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety).  They were also recognized for participating in Feed Nebraska.

Attendees participated in three engaging breakout sessions. Keynote speaker Tyler Cronin, the Sgt. Matt Workman from the Nebraska State Patrol, and Melanie Standiford from Midwest Media led these sessions, covering topics ranging from leadership development to career exploration and personal empowerment.

 

 The 2025 FCCLA Peer Education Conference successfully inspired and motivated the next generation of leaders, providing students with the tools, resources, and inspiration to “Find Their Spot in the World” and lead with purpose. “

 

Members ended the day with a closing session and drawing for door prizes. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps students become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. With over 199,000 members nationwide and nearly 3,000 members in over 100 chapters in Nebraska, FCCLA is the only career and technical in-school student organization with a central focus on careers that support families. Participation in FCCLA programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities. Nebraska FCCLA is supported through the Nebraska Center for Student Leadership and Extended Learning at the Nebraska Department of Education.
