FCCLA Red Cross Blood Drive Tuesday, Nov. 21
The FCCLA Red Cross Blood Drive returns on Tuesday, November 21, at Plainview High School from 9 am to 3 pm. All presenting donors will receive a pair of Elf the Movie Socks from the Red Cross as a thank you for their donation. A goal of 44 collected units has been set by the Red Cross.
The Red Cross national blood supply has fallen by about 25% since early August, as donor turnout dropped on the heels of one of the busiest travel seasons on record, back-to-school activities and an already active hurricane season. Blood product distributions to hospitals are outpacing the number of blood donations coming in, and distributions of some of the most needed blood types to hospitals have been reduced in recent weeks.
To donate, appointments are preferred to be made online at www.redcrossblood.org or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App on your phone. Appointments can also be made by phoning sponsor Ronita Jacobsen at 402-841-4566 or the high school at (402) 582-4991. FCCLA Members will be calling past donors using calling sheets provided by the Red Cross. Walk-ins may be allowed the day of the drive with permission of the Red Cross Drive Coordinator IF there is a current opening. However, appointments are preferred.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with a completed parental permission form), meet height and weight requirements (at least 110 pounds based on height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. After testing positive for COVID-19, donors must wait 14 days before giving blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive identification (driver’s license).
To save donation time, please complete Rapid Pass on the day of the drive before arriving. It can be found at https://www.redcrossblood.org/donate-blood/manage-my-donations/rapidpass.html or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App on your phone.
