FCCLA/Ed Rising Red Cross Blood Collects 32 Donations
With 41 presenting donors, Plainview’s most recent Red Cross Blood Drive, held Wednesday, May 6, once again showcased the strong spirit of service that continues to define the community. Organized by the school’s Plainview FCCLA and Educators Rising Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), the drive collected 32 units of blood throughout the day — just one unit shy of the 33-unit goal set by the Red Cross.
“Everyone’s donations and commitment to donating are greatly appreciated,” said Plainview FCCLA Adviser and Educators Rising Teacher Leader Ronita Jacobsen, who helps coordinate the school’s blood drive efforts. “Thank you to everyone for donating blood, scheduling appointments, and using RapidPass. It greatly improved the flow of the drive and helped keep wait times low.”
Although organizers narrowly missed their donation goal, they emphasized that every donation has a meaningful impact. According to the Red Cross, a single whole blood donation can help save up to three lives. Student leaders from both organizations plan to continue reaching out to donors ahead of future drives with hopes of increasing participation and recruiting additional Power Red donors.
The next blood drive is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Plainview Tartan Gym. Organizers will offer 48 appointment slots and are encouraging community members to register early through American Red Cross to help maintain efficient operations and short wait times. Students, staff, and community members are all eligible to donate. Those interested may also contact the school’s main office at 402-582-4991 for additional information.
Beyond supporting local hospitals and emergency medical services, Plainview’s blood drives also provide educational opportunities for students. Through a partnership with the Red Cross, the total number of donations collected throughout the school year directly impacts scholarship funding available to Plainview CTSO students. The partnership connects community service with student success, reinforcing the important role schools can play in supporting both education and community health.
Plainview’s ongoing commitment to hosting blood drives continues to make a positive impact across the region, bringing together students, staff, families, and community members in support of a lifesaving cause.
