Maertins and Mauer Complete Programs of Study
Family and Consumer Sciences students have been recognized for earning their national and state certifications throughout the year along with completing state programs of study within the Family and Consumer Sciences--Human Sciences and Education Career Field. To complete a program of study, students are required to take all classes within that program as outlined by the Nebraska Department of Education.
Within the Human Sciences and Education Career Field, Kaydance Maertins was recognized for completing 3 of the 4 Programs of Study offered at Plainview High School in FCS:
- Early Childhood Education and Services: Lifespan Development, Child Development, Best Practices in Early Childhood Education and Training, and Early Childhood Education Practicum
- Child, Youth, and Family Studies: Lifespan Development, Child Development, Interpersonal Relationships, Life and Career Readiness (Dual Credit with Wayne State College)
- Culinary Arts and Event Planning Program of Study: Fundamentals of Nutrition and Culinary Essentials, Culinary Skills 1, and Culinary Skills 2
Mallory Mauer also completed the Culinary Arts and Event Planning Program of Study.
Education and Training is the 4th program of study offered to students, and it has students on track to complete it next year. This program consists of Lifespan Development, Child Development, EDU 150 Teaching as a Profession, EDU 250 Human Development and Cognition (Best Practices in Education & Training with Work-Based Learning), EDU 275 PK-12 Instructional Design (Education & Training Practicum with Work-Based Learning) The three “EDU” courses are Dual Credit with Wayne State College. All dual credit courses are taught by Mrs. Jacobsen.
Early Childhood Education students were recognized for their work in completing state certifications which will allow them to work in licensed childcare centers in the state of Nebraska. As a certified trainer Mrs. Jacobsen, offered students, “Safe with You” and “Active Supervision of Children”. Completing the state required courses at Plainview High School were Alissa Abram, Peighton Arlt, Ilyanna Barron, Meleah Buck, Katherine Enriquez, Nyome Harding, Avery Hardisty, and Kara Lingenfelter. Kaydance Maertins completed “Safe with You” at Northeast Community College through her Introduction to Early Childhood course with Fridays at Northeast. Students also completed the online course “Prepare to Care: Health and Safety Training” which is a required training for all Child Care Subsidy Providers and Staff in Nebraska. The goal of completing the certifications is to prepare students to work with children and keep them safe, whether it be within their own family or working at a licensed childcare center in Nebraska. Their certifications are on file with the Nebraska Early Childhood Professional Record System (NECPRS). As a nationally certified ServSafe Instructor and Proctor Jacobsen’s Culinary 1 students Rachel Harder, Landon Hergert, Darrin Hintz, Jaylin Johnson, Kaydance Maertins, Mallory Mauer, Charley Pittet, Anika Robinson, and Dominic White were recognized for completing the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe Food Handler Course and becoming nationally certified. The ServSafe Food Handler course covered five sections, which included Basic Food Safety, Personal Hygiene, Cross-contamination and Allergens, Time and Temperature, and Cleaning and Sanitation. Throughout the course students gained much knowledge regarding food safety, worked through real case scenarios, and put into practice food safety guidelines. The ServSafe Food Handler Program, developed by the National Restaurant Association, is the only food safety program that invests its proceeds back into the industry. Nationally recognized as the premier training for the restaurant and hospitality industry, the National Restaurant Association's ServSafe® Program is the trusted source for food safety training.
